Sentinel Security Life Company History

The Sentinel Security Life Insurance Company was founded in 1948 when a group of Utah funeral directors saw the need for families struggling to pay final expenses and burial costs.

As a result, the Sentinel Mutual Insurance Company was born to fill the void of affordable life insurance options in Utah with a specific focus on burial costs.

In 1957, the company changed its name to the Sentinel Security Life Insurance Company, but still maintained its focus on the burial and final expense marketplace.

Only recently did Sentinel Security Life expand its product offerings to include other lines of insurance.

In 2009, Sentinel offered a Medicare Supplement insurance and added annuities in 2011.

While Sentinel Security Life doesn’t have the centennial history as other insurance companies, such as the Mutual of Omaha, it has kept its promises to its clients for over 70 years.

Today, Sentinel Security Life continues to aid families in planning for later stages of life.

Sentinel Security Life Financial Strength and Service

Sentinel Security life is rated B++ (Good) by the A.M. Best Company, which is a third-party rating agency that evaluates the ability for insurance companies to pay their claims.

While the score of B++ is not an investment-grade rating, it is right on the cusp.

Additionally, A.M. Best recently upgraded Sentinel Security Life in 2017 to B++ (Good) from B+ (Good), showing that their balance sheet is improving.

Sentinel Security Life is an accredited business of the Better Business Bureau (BBB) since March of 1979 and holds an A+ Rating, which is the highest rating that the BBB awards.

An A+ indicates the BBB”s opinion of how Sentinel Security Life is likely to interact with its clients.

Sentinel Security Life Burial Insurance Features

Sentinel Security Life has three types of burial insurance plans that are known as the New Vantage plans.

All of the New Vantage burial insurance plans are simplified issue whole life plans with no medical exam.

Sentinel Security Life’s whole life insurance gives final expense protection that you can never outlive.

Your rates will never increase, and your benefits will never decrease as long as you pay your premiums on time.

All three versions of the New Vantage burial insurance plans are designed to pay death benefits quickly.

You can even assign the death benefits to your funeral parlor if needed.

Sentinel Security Life will also provide you a complimentary memorial guide for you to pass to your loved ones if you wish.

The application process consists of a phone interview with a convenient voice signature, so no struggling with email signatures and technology issues.

We will cover the different benefits and features of each individual plan briefly below.

The New Vantage I Plan

The Sentinel Security Life New Vantage I plan is whole life insurance designed for people in good or excellent health.

The New Vantage I plan has a level death benefit, which means that you’re covered by the full death benefit from day one with no waiting period!

The New Vantage I plan also offers the lowest rate of all of Sentinel’s burial insurance plan options.

The New Vantage II Plan

The Sentinel Security Life New Vantage II plan is designed for people with minor health issues.

The New Vantage II plan has a modified death benefit in the first two years of the policy.

A Broker’s Opinion on if Sentinel Security Life is Worth It

As a veteran life insurance broker, our agency has written scores of burial insurance policies for clients.

Sentinel Security Life is a great company that has a lot of unique health niches that allow clients to get burial insurance coverage from day one.

Where other burial insurance companies may decline to offer level coverage, Sentinel Security Life will provide final expense protection with no waiting period!

For that reason alone, Sentinel Security Life has earned a place on our shelf.

The New Vantage I plan is the best of all the plans with extremely competitive rates compared to the competition.

Use our free rate comparison tool to see how Sentinel Security Life’s rates stack up against other highly-rated life insurance companies.

The New Vantage II plan is better than a return-of-premium modified death benefit.

However, if you’re offered the New Vantage II plan, other final expense companies may give you coverage without a waiting period, so get a second opinion.

Finally, the New Vantage III plan is not better than a guaranteed issue life insurance plan.

While some coverage is better than no coverage, there are better-priced products like AIG guaranteed issue life insurance that offer more notable benefits.

Finally, Sentinel Security Life’s voice-signature telephone application is convenient and straightforward.

The voice-signature avoids the hassle of computer problems that always seem to arise when trying to purchase life insurance over the phone.

While Sentinel Security Life’s voice-signature application may not have as quick processing as other companies, that is a small price to pay for budget-busting rates.
